Reseda home 'all clear' after bomb squad search, FBI says Los Angeles Times

house explosion white lake

Marcus Tiu and his brother were among those who fled their home in the middle of the night. He said they were asleep when they heard the ambulance and a lot of commotion, and then saw the apartment going up in flames. The roof of the vacant home collapsed, and at least 12 units in the apartment buildings were rendered uninhabitable by the fire. Officials say they have heard from several neighbors that there was a foul smell in the area Saturday. Authorities scheduled a Friday morning news conference to discuss the case. HOLLADAY, Utah (KUTV) — Residents of a Salt Lake County neighborhood were evacuated after large amounts of explosive material were found inside one home.

During the course of their efforts to extinguish the fire, firefighters often came dangerously close to the flames bursting forth as they battled from the roof of the building. "Based on the initial information that we have from law enforcement, it could be a probable cause,"  LAFD Assistant Chief Dean Zipperman said. "Our arson team is working with LAPD to gather all of those facts, all of the information, to come up with a cause." The city posted Red Notices on the building, indicating it's too dangerous to enter. Sky5 aerial video showed a significant amount of evidence that had been removed from the property and spread out along the sidewalk and under tents. Among the items was a 3D printer that appeared to have a swastika on its base.

Authorities probe oil well explosion in White Lake Township

house explosion white lake

For the next six weeks, four days a week, seven hours a day, including meals and coffee and bathroom breaks, Trump will be treated like an ordinary New Yorker, forced to sit in a drab 17-story municipal building. Justice Sonia Sotomayor cited several real-life examples of women who suffered sepsis or later had to have a hysterectomy because doctors wouldn’t perform an abortion. Turner kept dodging about whether that was the effect of the law, saying it was a case-by-case decision.

As police and fire personnel arrived they learned there had been six people inside the home and they began a search of the area while fire personnel worked on extinguishing the remaining fire.

One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported, but officials said cadaver dogs were on scene, a standard procedure for such a fire, according to officials. "We've heard the same thing, that there might be homeless people inside that vacant building. That's also why we ran our dogs to search and ensure that no one was trapped," said Capt. Erik Scott. She added the neighboring house is full of trash and that the neighbors don't clean up at all. She said she hears them yelling at night and is certain one of them started the fire.

Trump, glaring at him from across the courtroom, seemed unappreciative of all that Pecker once did for him. Now the worm has turned, and David Pecker, the longtime publisher of the Enquirer, is delivering devastating testimony against his old pal, detailing crimes against Trump’s 2016 rivals, the standards of journalism and the truth. I think what we’re seeing at Columbia and on other elite campuses is a precursor to what we’re going to see at the Democratic convention in Chicago.

On Wednesday afternoon, the United Nations Security Council voted on a U.S.-Japan resolution prohibiting weapons of mass destruction, namely nuclear weapons, in space. It is perhaps the latest sign that the essential pieces of nuclear arms control are falling one by one. Soon, the patchwork of Cold War era treaties and agreements that have kept nuclear war at bay may be all but lost. But on redirect, Joshua Steinglass steered the prosecution’s case back on track, asking whether the various deals on Trump stories were really all that common.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett was one of six members of the Supreme Court who voted to end the constitutional right to abortion in 2022, so she has very little credibility among those who support a woman’s right to reproductive freedom. Nonetheless, she may yet play a significant role in determining the new landscape of abortion rights and has recently sounded skeptical of those on the extreme right who want to criminalize every form of abortion. Trump lost nearly 17 percent of the Republican vote to Nikki Haley — who, you may recall, dropped out of the presidential race a month and a half ago. (As a point of contrast, Biden’s defunct primary challenger, Representative Dean Phillips, pulled not quite 7 percent.) Such a lively showing by Haley’s zombie campaign is a big ol’ red flag for Team Trump. This seemed to me ironic, since it was Trump himself, far more than any journalist, who encouraged a small but decisive faction of Republicans to break with anti-abortion leaders and erase Arizona’s sweeping abortion prohibition, which the House did on a 32-to-28 vote.

Hazardous materials teams and bomb squad members responded to the scene, along with people from the Utah Department of Health, EPA, Salt Lake Valley Emergency Communications Center, UFA, Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake and Holladay City. FOX 2 Detroit reported that the explosion took place on Winters Lane. Police have not released the number of fatalities, but Huron Valley Ambulance spokesperson Marc Breckenridge told MLive Media Group that four people were found dead. Michigan authorities are investigating a fatal house explosion that happened in Whitmore Lake on Saturday. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

The group, which supports a network of progressive organizers in rural areas, commissioned the poll to help its members shape their messages in the most effective way. “I have never seen a criminal defendant go out and attack the process and the actors in the process while the trial was going on, while a jury was in the box,” Kristy Parker, a former federal prosecutor now with Protect Democracy, told me. To go by Trump’s recent activity on Truth Social, the order hasn’t worked.

Three people who died were found at the scene of the explosion. Of the three others who were hospitalized, one died and two were in critical condition at a hospital, according to an update Sunday from Northfield Township police. A wide swath of ground surrounding the home's hollowed-out basement was covered with splintered wood debris Saturday, aerial footage shows. The charred husk of a car could also be seen near where the outside walls of the home once stood in Whitmore Lake, a rural community about 12 miles north of Ann Arbor. Officials say that the house is destroyed, leaving only the basement behind, but no other homes were damaged in the explosion. DTE was on the scene to confirm the area is safe, and fire and hazmat crews were expected to respond shortly to secure the scene.

When I asked The Times’s recipe columnist Melissa Clark for a tip, she pointed me to Joan Nathan’s vegan matzo ball soup recipe. It calls for the use of aquafaba — chickpea water — as an egg substitute. By saying of Trump, “he’s a man, he’s a husband, he’s a father, he’s a person like you and me,” Todd Blanche, Trump’s lead attorney, seemed to be setting up a defense partly based on Trump not wanting the Stormy Daniels story made public in order to protect his family.

Hazmat crews detonate 'ancient dynamite' found in Utah home after neighbors evacuated

No one in the courtroom was laughing at the lurid tabloid headlines when they were introduced into evidence. It seems clear that these bogus stories, too, were part of the corrupt and journalistically disgraceful Trump Tower deal. Court let out early Monday, after the judge explained that an alternate juror had a dental emergency. You could just imagine Trump seething at the thought of his time dictated by a root canal. But I was grateful to leave early — and satisfied that he would be there every day.

Explosions at White Lake Township petroleum refinery lead to evacuations

Fire and police officials were not immediately available for comment. With so many chemicals washed away or burned up, neighbors who had to be evacuated at the time are concerned about toxins potentially getting into their drinking water or in the air. They want to know what caused the explosion and fire and the health risks for those living nearby. An explosion late Friday at a petroleum refinery in White Lake Township caused a large fire that forced the closure of roads and evacuation of nearby residents.

How many of these Haley Republicans will turn out in the general election to vote for Biden? And keep in mind that Pennsylvania holds closed primaries, in which only registered members of a party can vote in that party’s primaries, so it’s not as though independents or mischief-making Democrats were muddying up the Republican pool. After the vote, activists were furious at the Republican lawmakers who broke ranks. Several were unaware that Trump opposed the 1864 law.

CNN has reached out to fire and police officials for more information. "This is crazy," he said. The cause of the blast and fire remains under investigation. Responding fire departments came from White Lake, Commerce, Highland and Springfield townships, as well as from Milford and Waterford. The Oakland County Hazardous Response Team also monitored air quality. The victims have not yet been identified and the cause of the explosion is currently unknown.

The prosecution objected, the objection was sustained, and the cross-examination of Pecker was suddenly over. It began strong, went south fast on Thursday and limped to its conclusion shortly after lunch on Friday. Bove had tried to prove that Pecker was a liar and failed. Bove ended by asking whether Pecker understood that some of his testimony “was stressful to his family,” referring to Trump. This was not a smart move, because it reminded the jury that unlike Michael Cohen, Pecker, a former publisher of The National Enquirer, bore Trump no ill will, which made his devastating testimony even more credible.

For one thing, the sheer size of the inflation jump is just implausible. Even in a highly overheated economy, which we don’t seem to see in other data, we wouldn’t expect underlying inflation to rise that fast, which suggests that there’s something funny about the numbers. But I don’t believe that inflation has really accelerated that much. What we’re probably seeing is mostly statistical noise that understated inflation in late 2023 but is overstating it now. The Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of underlying inflation, the cost of personal consumption excluding food and energy, rose at a 3.7 percent annual rate, up from just 2 percent in the previous quarter.

Trump’s problems in the state may stretch beyond purplish suburbia. Haley won more than 20 percent of Republicans in Lancaster County, a dark-red enclave, and pulled double digits in other conservative counties such as Westmoreland and Northumberland. In 2016, Christian conservatives argued they had to vote for Trump in order to ban abortion. Eight years later, Trump has become an end in himself; for him and only him, wobbliness on abortion can be overlooked.

"It is ancient dynamite. The information we received was that the dynamite was passed down from generation to generation so how old it is, we actually do not know," Barker said at the news conference. Without it, the situation in Gaza after the conflict ends could be dangerously unstable. Six months into this conflict, “the day after” may seem like a distant prospect, but in the meantime, it is in no one’s interest to hobble one of the few remaining stabilizing forces in Gaza. Viral remnants may still play a role — maybe only some people are sensitive to them — or maybe leftover viral components are common and harmless. The N.I.H. also told me this is “an area of active investigation,” as it should be. The plethora of options seems fitting for a holiday that celebrates liberation and, thus, relaxation; the need to labor in someone else’s name is gone, and so the labor of love that is the matzo ball can continue unhindered.

Ghosts series five review this beautifully warm comedy bows out on a high Television

charlotte ritchie ghosts

It’s very nicely tailored to everybody's specific history. Also, of course, it's still a comedy, and it’s not trying to be anything more than that. But Ghosts is an antidote to the polarisation of the real world. It’s an example of living alongside people that you don't agree with, and don't necessarily always love having to interact with. Unfortunately, it's the case that people really feel differently about things. Ghosts is a nice contained and safe example; no one has anything to lose by watching it.

Did the episode feel festive to film?

And then suddenly you think, “Well, hang on. We are supposed to be writing a comedy here! For me, that is almost more important. Because one thing it told me is how you connect with the audience and how you tell the story. Once you've tasted that, you don't want to let that magic go because that's what storytelling is – it’s connecting properly with an audience. The thing I get told most often is that it's the only thing that parents watch with their kids.

Ghosts is coming to an end! How does that feel?

Now, Charlotte has updated What To Watch on how filming is proceeding. Ghosts series four is on its way and Charlotte is 'excited' for fans to see it. Broadcast networks aren’t in the habit of doing this, even if plenty of shows originated elsewhere before being remade for American audiences.

Ghosts seems to appeal to a really wide age range, is that something you are proud of?

One of the things that made Ghosts’ first series such a hit was the relationship between Smith-Bynoe and Call the Midwife star Charlotte Ritchie as Alison. The show’s premise – that the ghosts can never leave the grounds of the house – is a tragicomic trope of Britcoms, ie that the protagonists can’t escape their fate. It was Harold’s psychic wound in Steptoe and Son, and now in Ghosts all the spirits are stuck in each others’ company for good as if Button House is a home counties Hotel California.

Ghosts star Charlotte Ritchie: It feels rubbish it's ending!

The final series of Ghosts starts on Friday, October 6 at 8.30pm on BBC One and the full series will be available as a boxset on BBC iPlayer on the same day. But I think if we had a lot longer, I think that would happen a lot more. People would play more, and they'd try to make each other laugh more. But sometimes it feels a bit like, "Can you not make me laugh? I don't have time to do this."

All that remains now are the repeats. “I think, more so than drama, people will go back to comedies they love and want to experience them again and find more in them,” says Baynton. “There are plenty of shows that are comfort. Sometimes you put them on so you can have a nap.” He seems to be suggesting that Ghosts is part of that soporific canon. I look at the four screens, each interviewee giggling happily at the thought of Britain not sobbing over the last episode, but dozing through repeats.

Charlotte Ritchie: Alison Cooper

But this season feels higher-stakes because they're not on Plan A now; they're on Plan J. I think the writers are really smart. They knew that it was the right choice. I think we just were just getting to the point where everyone was very comfy in their parts, and it was just the right point to finish. A lot of the feedback I've got from people has been that they think it's cool to quit while you're ahead. As we begin the series, while Alison and Mike search for new ways to keep Button House going after the gatehouse fire, they receive some unexpected news that will bring about major changes for them and the Ghosts.

"And also, just knowing that the ghosts would be so excited. It's such a lovely thing that this baby is coming into a huge family of people." Then, over the video link from his home, Smith-Bynoe gives me a cheeky grin. “And it also makes me a bit happy. I’m like, ‘You can comment all you like on YouTube but you can’t do anything about it. It’s been commissioned – another two times.” A third series of Ghosts was commissioned before the second aired. Charlotte Ritchie became a household name after playing nurse Barbara Hereward in four series of the nation's favourite Sunday night drama, Call the Midwife.

Also, different countries can buy into their own history or their own culture. I love playing her so much because she's just so extreme. Mostly, the feedback I get is about her faces. I get a lot of people sending me pictures of them bending their faces. And I get a lot of catchphrases – like “Off the lawn! No, not specifically, but there’s absolutely no way that we won't work together again.

It wasn't really the last day that did it to me – by then I think I’d pre-grieved! I think that phrase is from Succession, but I’m sure I coined it first! In some ways, it’s cathartic to say, “OK, that's it. That’s the end of the chapter.” Strangely, you get used to that in this job. There are so many goodbyes that we have to see them as a good thing because otherwise, it's just too sad all the time.

They are delighted to have something they can watch all together that isn’t algorithmically pointed towards their generation. “But what really touches me about that is that she’s so much fonder of the ghosts that she would ever admit. I love that because there’s an undertone of real love that is completely reluctant because they drive her up the wall and make things so difficult for Mike, too. “The ghosts are driving her crazy! “Obviously, it’s exaggerated and I’m pushing it for certain effects, but she feels very human, despite being in a kind of cartoony world.

I think it’s the right decision artistically to finish now. Also, we never wanted to be Last of the Summer Wine which did 32 series. I've never played a single character for that long or written a group of characters for that long. You become so attached emotionally to these imaginary people, but also to the real people who are the cast and crew around you. You’re thinking, “This has been this has been a privilege and a joy.” I’ll carry those joyful memories with me for the rest of my life.

It’s sad, but it was the right time to end it. We didn't want people to say, “Oh, it's not as good as it used to be.” You always want to leave them wanting more. I don’t think the sixth series of anything is the best. All the good ones end before then, except perhaps Seinfeld.
